One of my all-time favorite movies is The Princess Bride.
Okay, right now I can hear most of the ladies nodding in agreement and quoting their favorite lines from the movie. And I hear most of the men groaning as they imagine everyone saying:
"HELLO! My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die!" or
"There is a shortage of perfect breasts in this world. It would be a pity to damage yours" or
"No more rhymes! I mean it!... Anybody want a peanut?" or
"Inconceivable!... I don't think that means what you think that means."
I love the scene where Buttercup walks out of the castle and the old woman starts booing her, calling her the queen of filth and putrescence.
I could go on and on. At one time, I could probably recite the entire movie by heart. I watched this movie so often, my dad would start coming into my room asking "How's the sickie" every time I didn't feel well.
And in high school every morning, my dad and I would have the exact same conversation as I went to leave the house...
Me: Bye dad!
Dad: Have fun storming the castle
Me: Think it'll work?
Dad: It'll take a miracle.
And then some days he would follow this with "Good luck and good hunting."
Even if I was in a bad mood, running late for school and freaking out about my chemistry exam, this exchange would always lift my spirits. I may not have always let him see the smile on my face, but it was always there. Just like it is now as I write this and remember all those mornings.

In other news, as you guys read this, I'm sitting in the Bronx, freezing my butt off, rooting on my boys in pinstripes. Here's hoping they clinch tonight. GO YANKEES!

My husband is fairly obsessed with that movie! I have to admit that it's excellent!
I hope you got your project done last night ok!
You know, I have never seen that movie.
I absolutely love that movie! Great post for TT!
Way fun remembering the Princess Bride!
Great movie. Check out Stardust if you haven't already, as well.
Lovely story, I haven't seen that movie....
Here is my castle...!
Princess Bride? (head nodding). Lovely story. BTW, congrats on the series win by the boys in blue!
My husband adored that movie too. I read him the first line, "My name is Inigo Montoya..." and he knew right away. I, on the other hand, had no clue.
On another note, love the exchange between you and your father. Sweet.
Your dad sounds wonderful! :)
Dad memories are the best. -Jayne
My favorite line?
"But Wesley, what about the ROUS's?"
"Rodents of Unusual Size? I don't think they exist!"
*Wesley proceeds to get pounced upon by a ginormous rat*
Classic slapstick comedy and a decent romance for the ladies, too!
Why on earth have I never seen this movie? I must rectify this at once!!!
Memories like these always warms my heart. :) Thanks for sharing. But to tell you the truth I've never seen that movie "Princess Bride". I've seen part of "Princess Wars" though. Lol! Just kidding. :p
Here's my take on the theme: El Rey(jr) visita los castillos!
I've not seen the princess ride. i feel like I missed out :)
I loved the Princess Bride!
And the Yankees won. Yay!!!
Enjoy the game. I'll keep my fingers crossed!
Don't know why you think any guys would groan at lines from the flick. I love it, as does my brother and many others.
It is such an infinitely quotable flick, and just wonderful.
Westley: "Give us the gate key."
Yellin: "I have no gate key."
Inigo: "Fezzik, tear his arms off."
Yellin: "Oh, you mean this gate key."
I haven't ever seen Princess Bride. Must put it on the ever-expanding list. A wonderful story about your dad. Thanks.
Princess Bride is in my All Time Top Ten. Probably Top Five. And of course, as a fan I too must quote...
"I can't compete with you physically, and you are no match for my brains."
That's a great dad story. GREAT.
And I am shocked, shocked at the names of some of the people who have not seen this. Do it NOW, people!!! :) :)
OH, yeah! Princess Bride... haven't seen it in ages! A classic!
And I have never even heard of the movie! So much for my rounded education. I will keep a look out for it and in the meantime, Happy TT
You're so right about the Pricess Bride it's one of only a few DVD's that I actually bought and can watch it over and over. Late catching up but it's nice to have a leisurely pursuit on a Saturday morning. Have a good weekend.
great movie. I don't buy many movies, but when it came out as a vhs...then upgraded when dvd's took over we even got a dvd copy.... good to put in when I need a little adventure (and a laugh)
