Things I Don't Understand: The Hat Edition

This week's theme is hats. I thought I'd go visual for this week's post...

There are a lot of things I just don't understand about fashion. Despite having to wear a suit to work every day, I love lounging around on the weekend in my ratty old jeans and college sweatshirts. So I'm certainly not an authority when it comes to what's "in" and "out." I don't care...

But I especially don't understand the fashion statement that is hats...

Most people CANNOT pull off looking good in a hat. But these lovely ladies featured below have things on the top of their heads that I'm not sure even qualify as "hats." A larger mystery to me is WHY their stylists let them leave the house looking this freaking stupid! Does anyone really think they look good with a doily on their head? Or feathers?

Okay, first off - those damn feathers don't even match what she's wearing! But they're also ugly as sin and look like she just glued some discarded feathers on her head.

Unless you're performing in "A Chorus Line," lose the damn top hat, lady. Unless you're sporting a black tux, tails and are MALE, I don't think the top hat is for you.

Is that a hat or a REALLY bad hair day?

I'm not a fan of this entire ensemble. She looks like the flying purple people eater, don't you think?

I just don't understand Paris Hilton and her taste. Last I checked, wire mesh isn't head gear...

Don't get me started on this one. An acorn? Seriously? I thought Sarah Jessica was supposed to have taste and fashion sense. If this is fashion, I condemn myself to a life as a confirmed un-fashionista.

Putting aside the fact that she looks like she's wearing pillow cases as a dress, WHAT is that thing on her head?

And you thought veils were only for weddings? Maybe they should be!

I don't really have words for how stupid this one looks.

Show of hands... Who thinks this one looks like a demented leprechaun?

I just don't get it... Do you? It's like a lace doily gone very wrong. The hat too...

Such good examples of bad hat choices!

For some reason, I actually like the first one. I think it looks fun and she looks fun. The other ones are off the mark. I still remember the one that Aretha Franklin wore to Obama's inauguration. That was a hat!

Haha! We have a big horse race here in November and the wearing of hats and fascinators is well . . less than fascinating. I do have a penchant for a peaked cap . .hides a multitude of sins! Of course over here .. you don't go to the beach without a hat! But they're a little more sensible

I can hold a ball cap but that is it y'all.

I think that a baseball cap or a helmet are about the only useful hats! :)

My hat is off to anyone brave enough to wear any of those you have shown! I do, on occasion shove a baseball cap on when I am too lazy to wash my hair and I do like a big straw hat for the garden.

Don't you know it's all about the ego? The more outlandish, the more attention they get. They don't care how bad or foolish it looks, as long as the flash bulbs are going off.

It's one thing to wear a very fancy shmancy hat to a formal occasion where everyone is wearing them... as long as they're tasteful and fabulous... I'm thinking of the old fashioned type, but the ones you just shared are horrendous.

hilarious! yeah all those hats are terrible but you have to say that in the fifties with some nice white gloves hats looked awesome

They look so silly.

It's really too bad hats aren't cooler - it might be fun.

Hahahaha! None of them look good in a hat. You just boosted my self esteem. At least I have the good sense NOT to wear any of that crap.
