Is "irrationalness" even a word? Whatever. I don't care. I'm a lawyer. We make up words all the time...
I panic every time Andrew runs a fever.
The rational part of me (yup - I really do have one) knows he has a cold. Every single kid in his classroom at daycare had a runny nose and cough on Friday. Getting sick was inevitable. Kids get fevers when they're sick.
I know this.
But I can't help but think that we're scheduled to go back for one last ultrasound in April. The infection wasn't completely gone during the last scan of his kidneys. Smaller, yes. Still shrinking, sure. The way we left things with the doctors was that his body would have to fight off the rest of the infection on its own and if he spiked a really high fever, to let them know.
So every single time he's run a fever since them, I've been afraid the infection is back with a vengence and it's going to land my little guy back in the hospital.
Okay... I've had my moment of freaking out. I'll be back with something more sane in the morning.

Hello,
And the frustrating thing about sick children is that when they get a fever, their fever is REALLY HIGH.
Scary.
Sending you prayers & good vibes.
Thanks Auntie!
I can't imagine how stressed you must be by all of this.
I'm glad you have good doctors for him.
David
This mommy job can lend itself to irrationalness.. Uh, yeah. It's offical. Irrationalness is now a word.
Anyway, alternate with tylenol and motrin to keep his fever down, and call his ped in the morning just to ease any fears you may have.
Hope your little guy feels better soon.
We have to think positively here. It's just a tiny fever and it will turn out ok. I hope he feels better soon!
David: My favorite lurker finally posts a comment!
Candice: Woo-hoo! Someone else used my new word. I guess it is official now
Blueviolet: Thanks.
Can you share some of your readers with me?
I think it's 100% normal to freak out every time your child gets sick. That's one reason I'm not sure if I want kids... I'll be the most OCD, over-protective, psychotic parent ever. And that definitely CAN'T be healthy for either of us!
Brad: I suppose, since you asked real nice. But you have to give them back!
Ms S: The paranoia is part of the package...and well worth it
