The woman in the mirror

She was...beautiful...by unconventional standards. Flawless skin, white like porcelain. Flaming red hair that hung in crimson waves to her waist. Her eyes burned the brilliant blue of sapphires sparkling in the sun. Her clothes were from another time - long, flowing, opaque.

I did not see her at first, merely feeling her presence and the sudden chill in the room. I turned quickly, searching behind me in the darkness, observing nothing out of the ordinary. My eyes snapped forward, onto the full length mirror facing me.

That's when I clearly saw her at my back, beckoning to me.

I stood transfixed, staring at our reflections in the mirror. I hardly noticed as she began to move toward me. Slowly floating forward until her reflection was mere inches behind my shoulder.

Sudden movement near the bottom corner of the mirror drew my attention. A black cat made its way toward us. The cat in the mirror passed close to my leg, the tail snaking its way against my bare skin. When the cat's tail brushed against my calf in the mirror, I felt it just as if the cat were in the room with me. My eyes snapped to the woman in white just as she began to reach out for me.

I screamed, terrified, and ran out of my house as fast as my shaky legs would carry me. I'll never forget the image of the woman in the mirror and her cat, no matter how much I try.

It is usually the exotic mysterious woman that runs away when I move toward her! HAHA! Great story!!! I am going to be creeped out all day with all these ghosts!

What is it about mirrors that evokes such creepiness?

Creepy story! Who knows what lurks in the mirror world? :)

Funny, I expected the woman to be in black (probably because the story reminded me of the play The Woman in Black)so I got a bit freaked when she was in white. I guess I was so engrossed, the image startled me.

Was it real? I know I have my gullible head on today. Why always mirrors and at night and in the shadows?

Baino asked, "Why always mirrors and at night and in the shadows?"

I think that even the most benign ghost has a mischievous side, and that they like being able to scare the crap out of us. Showing up at high noon on Main Street just wouldn't cut it.

And VE... Can I stay at your place for a while? Like, until the next sighting, maybe?

No Aloha Friday? :(

you should tell that story to the interns at the office... scare the shit out of em... maybe get them to work a little better... I don't know, spin it that she's the ghost that will come to haunt them if they don't finish that project you gave them on time;)
