This week's Theme Thursday theme is suitcase. Luggage. Baggage. Bags. It's all the same, right? So here's what happens to me when I don't pack my bags in advance...
Last night, I had to write a brief. To do so I needed to get online to do some research and access the documents I emailed to my home account. The internet wasn't working until after 8:30, which is about when my mind starts turning to mush. To make matters worse, Andrew didn't want to sleep - he literally woke up every 30 minutes all night long.
I was supposed to get into work by 7 to make up for the fact that I couldn't bang out my brief the night before. Well, that didn't happen.
Since having a baby, there's no such thing as traveling light anymore. I typically leave the house in the morning carrying at least 4 bags.
In my sleep deprived, bleary eyed state, I managed to forget Andrew's snack in the fridge when I packed up his food in its bag for daycare.
I planned to work out after work today. So I frantically run around trying to find my gear. My gym bag has up and vanished. Finally finding a plastic bag, I stuff my clothes in there before realizing that the bag is too small to fit the clothes and my sneakers.
SNEAKERS! I just about walked out of the house without them. I run back upstairs for the 5th time, curse the fact that I'm now late for work and am still half an hour away and grab my sneakers, tossing them in the bag without really looking at them.
I pick up all my stuff and lug it out to the car, chasing Andrew around the yard as he chases the birds.
Finally, we get him and all my stuff into the car. Drop him at daycare. Get to the office. And I realize that I left all my research sitting on the couch. This is why I have to pack up the night before - without fail, I will always leave something behind if I don't.
My day was frustrating and I was really looking forward to my post-work workout... Until I get into the locker room. I fish into my bag and pull out my sneakers. I had one white shoe and one gray one. I wouldn't have minded and just waited for someone to notice my fashion faux pas... But both sneakers were for my left foot.
My trainer seriously could write a book about the stupid things that happen to me right before I'm supposed to work out with them... So I march out in my bare feet and announce "Following in the great tradition of what else can go wrong when I'm scheduled to work out, check this out" And with great dramatic flair, I pull the mismatched sneaks out of my bag.
At least they got a good laugh out of it.

laughing with you (hopefully). there are those days...thanks for sharing your frustrating, yet humorous day with us. oh and make sure you pack that bag tonight...(smiles)
I hope the brief turned out okay. Maybe you could argue that the mismatched shoe caused you enough discomfort to warrant a dismissal? Add 'judgey wudgey' to the end and see if it works.
I have to get my *stuff* together like that the night before too or it does not bode well for the next day. Did you have to go back home for your research? At least you made the trainer's day:)
I am terrible at leaving the house and leaving something behind. I hate backtracking!!!!!
How many kids?? One???
I gave up on working out after the second one. I am just glad to be up everyday.
A few more years and both boys will be driving. Much more me time to work out when they have a car to dent!!
Laughing only because I have been there, done that. I hope things go better today!!!!
LOL,I know that too well! What happens when you don't pack in advance!memories going through my head!
I'd say your morning routine is a good enough workout.;)
I feel your pain.
Excellent . .so what's my excuse, my two are 22 and 24!
Ach! Even pre-packing days in advance, I'll still not remember everthing...then I'll waste time just prior to leaving making sure I've got it all. Meanwhile the traffic gets heavier!
even packing in advance wouldn't save me from the in and outs!
;)
Love it!!! Sounds like something I would totally do.
hahha - Glad you can laugh over it all, it's what will get you through the tough times.
That was quite a day. I least your humor is great lol
xoxo
Girlfriend, I'm sooo with you... minus the fact that I don't have a child to be responsible for. I often leave the house with at least 2 if not 3 bags and I always get made fun of. At least I'm prepared.
As for packing for a trip? Don't come anywhere near me while in the packing process because I may lose control and do something stupid. My anxiety gets the best of me and I can't function!
Next time you have an opportunity to come to SLC, you have to come. Auri and I (and the rest of the crew) will take you out and show you around!
I feel like this sometimes and I don't even have kids!! I have to admit that I smiled and maybe laughed a bit at your post. You're a very comical writer.
I too get stuff together the night before because my short term memory sucks.
I hope everything goes better for you!
how frustrating...if I forget workout gear I just assume it wasn't meant to be and leave. I get easily discouraged from working out.
You go girl at least you got out the door.
It used to take me a minimum of 3 tries to get out the door, if forgot my glasses, oh I forgot my cellphone, oh I forgot my lunch pale. I removed a lot of stressful people from my life and now I get out in one simple pass.
I hate it when I totally space stuff out in the mornings. Thankfully, I only live 15 minutes away from work, so if there's a huge mistake, it can be corrected ok.
I think I would have been found sitting in my car at a traffic light, weeping. You poor thing.
Also, I do understand your need to carry so much stuff. My husband calls me The Woman Who Carries Many Things.
Very funny, especially because I myself am so incredibly far-sighted and organized, that I virtually never forget anyth--
Not buying it, huh?
Oi! I'm exhausted just reading your post. I remember those days of yesteryear...getting up @ 5AM to get myself ready before waking my toddlers, one year apart, up to eat, dress and be dropped off at their little country day school so I could be at work for my evil boss by 8AM. The SOB even stood at the door a few times tapping his watch when I was late! Yes, planning and packing ahead takes some of the stress out.
Um do I have to take the kids with me
Ok DISNEY no no wait Italy, wait Hawaii, or maybe Paris, or how about MEXICO
You Could Always Change Career & Become A Juggler!
Best Wishes From Tony.
I think that forgetting things never stops. I sometimes think I keep my neighbors entertained when they see me going back and forth to the car. I have even had to drive back home after getting a few blocks away. Once I did that twice. You are not alone in doing that or having those kind of days.
I hope Andrew did well without his snack. And that was priceless about the shoes. It is good that you have a sense of humor about everything that happened. That is what keeps us sane.
Thanks for sharing you day with us.
God bless.
